Draycote Water Sailing Club will be holding its Optimist Open this Saturday, 21st July. Sailors from across the Midlands and beyond are invited to take part and make the most of one of the last chances to get some racing in ahead of the nationals.

Registration opens at 8.45am, with a briefing at 10.00am and a first race warning signal at 10.30am. The aim is to complete six races during the day with one discard, providing a great day of competitive racing for Optimist sailors.

The Draycote Water open is followed by three days of coaching clinics led by Steve Irish, providing a further opportunity for sailors to fine tune their starting and boat handling skills before the Volvo Gill Optimist Nationals from August 4-10.

Steve says: "We're looking forward to some close racing at the Draycote Water Optimist Open and we'll be following that up with some coaching clinics, so whether you just want to come along for the racing or sign up for the coaching as well, hopefully it will be a good opportunity for sailors to get focussed ahead of the nationals in Pwllheli."

Entry for Draycote Water Optimist Open on Saturday 21st July is just £15 a boat and can be made on the day. There will be a full galley available serving hot and cold food and refreshments.

The coaching clinics take place Sunday 22nd July, Monday 23rd July and Tuesday 24th July, and cost £25/day for Draycote Water SC members, £40/day for non-members, and can be booked individually or together at: webcollect.org.uk/mydwsc/event/optimist-clinic Draycote Water Sailing Club - www.draycotewater.co.uk - is a 650 acre reservoir set high in the rolling Warwickshire countryside, making for an ideal combination of both great sailing conditions and easy access from the M1, M6, M45 and M40 motorways.
