Shustoke Sailors throw down the "Gauntlet" to all visitors....beat us if you can!
It's hard to imagine now the extreme wind and snow conditions that put paid to Shustoke Sailing Club's Gauntlet event earlier this year. In the hope that they won't be returning any time soon this event has now been rearranged Sunday 16th September 2018.
Last year we hosted over twenty boats with visitors from five different clubs. Andy Davis (Blithfield) took the top spot in his Solo, he's had a great 2017 in both his Solo and Merlin Rocket; will he be back again in a bid to keep the trophy? Pete Gray and Richard Pepperdine (Staunton Harold) took 2nd place in their Scorpian; will they bring a GP14 entry this year in preparation for the worlds?! David and Zara Turtle (Shotwick/Shustoke) took the last podium spot in their Miracle; they're consistent performers on the Miracle circuit and will be looking to give the bigger boats a run for their money!
Shustoke has a very strong home Solo fleet - and with the Padro family looking quick in their new Comet Trio rigs, and Lark national champion Stuart Hydon on the water - will a Shustoke boat be able to bring home the trophy this year?!
The Gauntlet is open to all monohull dinghies with an RYA published PY number between Mirror (1385) and Osprey (935).
There will be two pursuit races of 80 minutes duration; the first race will start at 11.30 (warning signal of the first race will not be before 11.25). On-line entry forms will be available at www.shustokesailingclub.co.uk/ssc-events/the-gauntlet. Entry fees will be £20 per boat (£15 single hander). Competitors are requested to enter in advance but on the day entries will be accepted. The maximum number of entries is 60.
