In a wild and fantastic turn of events in the third race of opening day at the second event of the 2018 Melges 32 World League in Scarlino, the Corinthian team belonging to Martin Reintjes at the helm of Capirinha remained cool, calm and collected, charging to the top of the scoreboard to take the overall event lead.

"Today we experienced having our first bullet ever racing the Melges 32, so the feeling is quite incredible... to be on top is completely unexpected," said Reintjes post racing. "It will be difficult to maintain for sure. We had great starts in the first two races of the day, and we had good speed. We did change up our crew a little this year, but I think we've taken a great step forward and we are improving."

On equal points with Reintjes, Christian Schwoerer on La Pericolosa representing Germany is second overall. "It was a great day on the water. The third race was probably the toughest because the breeze dropped off, so to win that race was great," said Schwoerer.

Giangiacomo Serena di Lapigio's G-Spot is currently seated third, with Vincenzo Onorato's Mascalzone Latino and reigning World Champion Pavel Kuznetsov's Tavatuy rounding on the top five respectively.

Reintjes's spectacular performance on the water today makes him a double leader - he is also atop the Corinthian division and leading by a substantial margin.

Needless to say, as the racing moves forward it will be intense. The first warning on Saturday will be at 13.00.

The Melges World League is supported by Helly Hansen, Garmin Marine, North Sails, Toremar, Lavazza, and Melges Europe in collaboration with Club Nautico Scarlino, Rigoni di Asiago, Resort Baia Scarlino and Scarlino Yacht Service.

Melges World League has signed and adopts the code of ethics of the Charta Smerarlda strongly promoting the values of One Ocean Foundation.
