Carina Romero had another solid performance on Day 2 of the 2018 South American Games Women’s Sunfish® division by scoring three bullets and a third place.
Romero now leads Daniela Rivera by five points and is one race away from winning the gold medal. Rivera on the other hand has guaranteed a silver medal by building a 7-point advantage over Kelly Gonzalez.
The prospects of light air for the final day of the sailing events of the 2018 South American Games encouraged the race committee to run an additional race thanks to average wind speeds of 12 knots and milder temperatures.
Initial reports of Corani Lake being situated at 8,500 feet above sea level were incorrect as the actual elevation is closer to 10,500 feet. The apparent lack of oxygen seems to be a determining factor in this year’s edition of the South American games.
The sailing events conclude tomorrow May 31 with two final races.
