International 14 2018 Australian Championship at Darling Point Sailing Squadron - Day 4

by John Graham 10 Jan 2018 20:22 PST 5-12 January 2018

Light & variable & hot at the scheduled start time saw an postponement on the water of 20 minutes while they waited for the NNE sea breeze to fill in. Fleet got away with boats separating as they chased the lifts either side of the windward leg. Dave Alexander in front at the first mark where he stayed for the four lap race until the run to the shortened course leeward mark where Dave Hayter got thru to win from Alexander.

Third was Anthony Anderson who eventually beat Roger Blasse, who had a quick swim at the weather mark the last time.

First place in the regatta is a tie on points between Hayter & Krystic on nine points being separated in favour of Hayter on a countback. Third spot, 12 points behind the leaders, is again a tie between Alexander & Blasse, Alexander favoured on a countback.

Two more races to go, and with the second discard coming into effect at race eight, it promises to be an interesting finish to the regatta. Forecast is a bit iffy for the last two days with light & variable winds and the chance of a sea breeze. Very humid and even the possibility of a thunderstorm. Could be some interesting tactics and likely a bit of luck required.
