RS Feva class at the RYA Scotland Spring Championships

by Eilean Mauritzen 4 May 2016 00:36 PDT 23-24 April 2016

The RYA Scottish Spring Championships was hosted by Loch Venachar Sailing Club near Callander in the Trossachs on the 23rd and 24th of April. The club's hospitality was, as always, amazing and everyone felt very welcome.

It was beautiful weather when we were out on the water which reflected the lovely mountain scenery. The wind however shifted throughout the day on Saturday and Sunday which gave the race committee a much more difficult job but they handled it well. There were 90° wind shifts which sailors like us from the River Tay are not used to but it gave us good practice of inland sailing.

The competition was excellent throughout the weekend with every boat in the Feva fleet achieving a first but in the end Catriona and Ben won with consistently good sailing. The battle for second pace was extremely close with one point in it but Ben and Jamie won it by achieving a first place in the final race and our boat (Eilean and Ross Mauritzen) came third. Last but not least were Harris and Rory Angus who sailed competitively all weekend. Many thanks to our coach Callum who did an excellent job and we all learnt something new.

RS Feva Results:

1st Catriona Forrest / Ben Leffek (DBSC)
2nd Ben Ibbotson / Jamie Warburton (LVSC)
3rd Ross Mauritzen / Eilean Mauritzen (WBC)
4th Rory Angus / Harris Hayes (WBC)
