Hermitage Academy take the Brown Cup
The Scottish Schools Championship, hosted by Loch Earn SC, had an enthusiastic capacity entry of 85 boats, with 16 more left on the waiting list. The event was sponsored by Brooks MacDonald Asset Management, and offered a mix of schools team competition for the Brown Cup, plus individual competition in the three classes of Toppers, Optimists and Handicap. A weekend of training on June 9/10, preceded the Championship on Monday 11 June, which helped prepare many sailors who had limited racing experience. Schools came from all over Scotland.
Winds were light, but sufficient for two races. The biggest fleet was the Toppers, with 37 entries. Lewis Marr and local Aaron Murray traded wins, with Marr taking the class, with Murray second and Calum Rosie third. In an Optimist fleet including many very young sailors, Rory Harper,11, took first place, from Iain Sword and Claire Holliday. 29ers, 420s and Radials fought it out in the Handicap fleet, with honours going to Gillies Munro and Daniel Harris in their 29er. Jenni Abraham and Alan McIntosh took second in their 420, with Ian McLaughlin third in a Radial.
The Brown Cup for the best Scottish School team went to Hermitage Academy, Helensburgh, retaining the trophy from last year. Abraham/ McIntosh in the 420 and Calum Rosie and David Abraham in Toppers were among those from the six strong school team contributing high places.
