I am thinking of organising a Y&Y Forumites Open meeting. This has been sparked by previous discussions on this forum and also the high levels of interest and input to the Olympic sailing. My thoughts are as below:

All thoughts and input welcome! Edited by rodney - 04 Aug 12 at 12:08pm |

I don't want to exclude anyone but as I was thinking of short b/b races I was concerned about delays. We may be able to overcome this with lap times. Any thoughts on a format that allows for a quick turnaround between races and greater range of PYs would be welcomed. I need some help here as 99% of my sailing is class racing.

You use motor Grand Prix finishing - if someone is lapped, finish them anyway and use average lap times to adjust times.
In some ways, this is actually fairer than having the slower boats keep going, in that everyone sails in the same wind conditions - we've probably all seen the Wednesday evening scenario where the wind dies leaving the slower booat stranded with no chance of saving their time

Thanks Clive! If we adopt this we could certainly extend the range of PYs. Should we have a limits at all? Maybe F/Moths - Optimists? Thoughts please.

as above, average lap times for lapped boats would work. BUT its worth thinking about pursuits. you could easily do two 90 min races pursuits have a lots of advantages over normal py races. the most important of them are; 1) everybody finishs at the same time and knows the results straight away! 2) they are so, so,so much more fun!!!!!!!!! ![]() |

W/L courses
Only W/L ? The majority probably do not use an asymetric - what about triangle/Sausage - and offer something for everyone? Mike L. |

We'd suggested this before and I said then I'd happily jolly along work permitting, in fact I'd had it in my mind to suggest a sort of Formula 1 style event or association along the lines of that Tasar thing, but for single handers.
October rather than November for me, I made it a rule a while back not to go racing in sub 10 degrees windchill, the hands aint what they were. In fact why wait, tis the internet we're all here, we can pick a date in late september even and sort it out online if we can show or not.. By November the Olympics will be long forgotten.

Graeme, It would be great if you can came (of course that's if we get enough support to run the event). If we can do September we will but I am working though a busy calendar and many clubs are fully booked. Any thoughts on where? I did wonder if Burghfield may put up with us and also if they are able to keep the bar open for the Saturday evening? I also need some time to work on prizes and a beer fund
![]() Mike, I always thought that the reaches on a triangle, depending on the angles. may benefit the assys as they can often carry the kite to the corner and back with no worries about tactics. Probably best to have w/l and old Olympics course options with the race team to make the decision for each race.
