I'm now hearing how much stuff I missed, would a three day show be better??

I ask, in a slight tongue in cheek way, what we do is send GRF, & DougalDog up on the first day, and with thier totally opposite way of looking at sailing, by the last we will know what to focus our attention on!

Were you the Jon I missed on the Alto stand?

I was having a bit of a sit down and soup, tbh by 1.30 my brain was so overwhelmed I couldn't take any more in, I've got so many pics of systems and boats it'll take me ages to get my head round them all, so three hours does it for me, any more and my head would explode.

I honestly think although the show generally had a more muted air than in the past (not much going on in the foyer) the quality of the stuff that was there was so much better than anything I'd seen in the past, even the Cats caught my attention for far longer that they should.

I've always viewed the show as commercially unviable for hardware at least since for the most part it is a collection of closed minds that already belong to a particular class and wander round with that 1000 yard stare or derision or envy, very seldom do they appear to praise anything from another class.

Then it's the kids or offspring you try to appeal to (this from the days of trying to flog them windsurfing). However since it's become just my hobby with no commercial appeal to me whatsoever I view the whole event through entirely different eyes and when you engage with the enthusiasm that is collected together in that room it is so uplifting. (Avoiding the starch shirted sales folk of course)

The B14 guy, the new Alto girls, the Foiling Moth Guy, Chris Turner, even the Scorpion folk had a very enthusiastic lass which had me wondering for a bit, their enthusiasm is so infectious and me, I'm a salesman's dream, the only place I did think had lost a bit bless them was the Blaze crew looked like they'd had to 'move down the bench mini me' with Devoti devouring the Icon, good for Mike maybe but they didn't seem to be as forthcoming as they normally are, maybe just me. Maybe the power of Demo Donkey further up the stand they were queuing up for him.. LOL

FWIW I've heard remarkably good things about the D1 since Russ started running the demos... not always from likely sources, so well done those men... clearly a bit of passion, commitment and a regular bloke rather than a all-too-obvious ringer gets good acceptance amongst the sailing public?

I saw some D-One photos of the stand... have to say, if 'image turnaround' was a criteria in the Crufts Prize, then the D-One should win hands down, it looks a totally different beast to a few years ago.

Whilst placing obstacles in the way of everything new and interesting with the old adage 'well it hasn't got a class so we don't sail it here' thereby forever consigning the sport to the margins of the charismatically challenged and those well versed in coffin avoidance.

The Merlin Rocket all the time it's a humorous 'send up' of itself by the modern materials chucked at it, is fine but it shouldn't be forgotten the fact, it still is an old and potentially dangerous craft for a number of reasons, not least those airbags that are supposed to be residual buoyancy, not to mention the dubious competence of  crews that often use it. Hence it should be confined to once a year use in the river nr Kingsbridge by drunkards posing as sailors as a good old laugh at what sailing used to be and that be an end to it.

Don't even start me off on what should happen to the GP14.

thats why you add so much to the forum, you make it buzz, and fizz and make it fun Clap

and the fact that your nearly allways wrong( whether by accident or design Wink),if allways well thought out, makes it even more fun!!!!!!!!! LOL LOL LOL

I was one of many, so I understand, that were somewhat dismissive to Luca about his baby when we saw it on his dark little stand back in 2009. However, sailing is believing.

So, if newer is better than older, I assume the Topper Argo is a better boat than the AltO?

I enjoyed the show. I lost count of the number of symetric classes that now have the wizzy twin pole system (Scorpion, Fireball, 505, Merlin, etc), I just fear for the helms eyes when the crew releases the pole. I envisage the 'Rooster Full Face Helmet Pro' launching soon for the helms of these boats so they dont smash up their faces!

I didnt think the RS900 looked that innovative, looked like a 49er to my untrained eye. The aura did look innovative though, those racks looked nice, I couldnt see the join that they must have to allow then to be trailed on the road. I wish I had taken a look at the Merlin with canting rig though.

Topper? why would an old hat maker compare with a boat?
