Just going to browse and absorb a bit of the sailing scene after the winter lay off. Not looking forward to the drive home though.....whats the best way there from the A21? Helicopter I suppose.

Will be there hanging around the 600 at various points throughout the day. Hopefully looking to get a nice dinghy spray top or warm smock type thing. And of course any freebees!

Go in through the Blackwall Tunnel, up the Commercial road, take the old road North then turn right somewhere up Hollyway Road.

Alternatively over the Dartford Crossing pick up the North Circular and turn left, where it says Alexandra Palace this way...

Either way, it's more city driving than I want to indulge in, given that I've been to the show for the past N years.

Shame though  - I like Ally Pally per se, it's just the access.  If the venue were more accessible - outside the M25 or at least outside the North Circular (it's getting out onto the N. Circ when leaving the show that is always a pain) - I'd go along if only to soak up the atmosphere.

Train-tube-bus? Assuming Southeastern have decided to run trains, of course.

Some interesting stuff that caught my eye that I wasn't expecting.

D1 looked great - it has come on a lot. D1 or RS100 - I'd have an D1.
Icon vs Taser. Looked quite similar.  The Taser I thought shaded it.
The class assoc and Allen Albacores looked great - really purposeful bits of kit.
Lots of lovely Fireballs - all good.
Spitfire cat - I ssooo want one - but I'll need to move first.
Alto - looked really good. Rig bigger than I thought. I wish them well with what looks a good product but it isn't for me.
The new RS400 jib looked excellent, main just another plastic sail.
Racing Wayfarer on the busy Hartley stand - was nearly boat of the show for me. I didn't think I'd be saying that about Wayfarers pre- Hartley.
Latest cherub looked severely bonkers - the only skiffy thing that drew me in.
The update Ent looked interesting - mainly because change and Ents are not something that happens that often.

Boat of the show for me - the Boon GP14. I used to sail DPs a bit and if I could cough up the pennies (which I can't) that would be the boat.

A good show overall I thought with a good buzz about the place.

Like some other things - sailing is more enjoyable when you do it with someone else

Didn't think the show had quite the same buzz as last year, nothing much going on outside, a lame cat with a wing mast in the foyer, hate to think what would happen if that ever fell over.

Saw the X1, which had a busy stand, noted the D1 stand wasn't as busy as last year but the boat looked O.K., the Alto stand had a pleasant buzz to it with a good bunch and noted the boat is no 115 now.

Found a Phantom, disappointing as it looked like some thing from a knitting circle and had no traveller thingy across the middle, that is if you could get close to it running around the legs of all those massive blokes fighting over who was going to eat the cake, all in one mouthfull. My chum barry is a fairly big guy, but I sh*t you not compared to those blokes he looked like a midget, and me? I'm a gnat. Still it had no traveller thingy so no sale, think he'll probably end up going for a late low mileage one he's spotted in apollo duck.

Saw that bloody cheats charter on the rooster stand, warned my lot when one of them rang me up to announce with glee the new Rs100 PY, that I'm going to get one just to haul off the silver with next season..

Hartley laminates stand was busy, and the pricing was really keen, shame they don't have any appealing designs, didn't rate that wimmens skiff at all.

Mike was busy on the Icon stand lots of folk crowded round, I felt the Blaze just still needs that kite.. In fact so does the icon but then what do i know..

It was an enjoyable day, it's always a good show, I caught up with a few old pals, wind and sail, damn car parks were full so had to blag a spot in a nearby garden centre and ended up buying a bird table out of guilt.

I couldn't find the Ovington stand (thinking I might find a thwarted Phantom there), I guess they must have been there somewhere, but it wasn't that obvious, so all in all we left mission unaccomplished, but we had a good time nevertheless, highly recommend it.
