Does anyone else find today's Google home page horrendously annoying? I have Google set as my browser home page and so it has to load every time I open firefox yet even with a decent broadband connection it takes ages to load the background!

I thought that the fading tool bars were a step to far and now today's development is frankly ridiculous! Google is primarily a search engine, is there really any need for this... also the 'change the background' is a dead link so I can't get rid of it!

Call me old fashioned but this is a complete waste of someone's time and money!

How they have the cheeck to say it can compare....the amount of searches that come up with NOTHING is ridiculous.

Just changing the name everytime they realise they are rubbish aint cutting it!

??? It looks perfectly normal to me... And besides its hard for anything to be so bad as to make me want to use Bing. Alta Vista perhaps...

Thank goodness my searches are done using the little search box at the top right of my browser - I don't have to go through Google's homepage or their new pictured 'classic' look...

if you've got an account, you can login and change the background image to whatever you want. Which is still a pain. A plain white image doesn't too well, as the white text with drop shadows is not great on it. A black background does work well though. To save you sixty seconds making it paint, here's mine- 6.28kB of 800*600 png. Right click, save it to your computer, and use the changer thingy to upload it.

or just use iGoogle, which I normally do.

Is that IE6 I see? If so, that'll be reason - it'll be Google in 'compatibility mode'. I never thought that IE6 would bring something good to the world!
