Because they're slow. If they went any faster, the sailors would die of excitment. I belive you need to show your buss pass to become a CA member.

Its not very fast...

Its quite short (key factor), its quite wide on the waterline, its rather heavy by modern standards... On the other hand it slips along nicely in the light and roll tacks well, so its good in its conditions...

The difference between the best and worst sailors in just about any class is around 20%, or around 250 points of yardstick in the Topper/Solo area... So even the middle of a Topper fleet is likely to be able to overtake the bottom of a Solo fleet...

I'm very suprised by that Steve, i have sailed at a club where Solos have been one of the dominent classes for a long time.  I can't think of a time when a topper has done even the worse Solo sailor, so well done.

I don't know... we've beat Solo's and Toppers on the water in the Mirror on a
good day. Can't get past the top Solo guys on handicap at the moment
though.

I guess the Solo PY is representative as they are a very numerious class and must have had lots of returns done over the years.

Just shows for some speed is unimportant.

As only a tiny handful of people in the world sail C Class catamarans the logical deduction is that speed is unimportant for just about *everyone*.
