We've always has the problem that at our club the cadet section has always had it's own commodore, secatary, finnance officer ect, yet all we've ever done is used the titles in meetings.

Does anyone have any ideas how we can get more involved in the running of the cadet section?

Depends how you want to get involved?

Are there any issues you need to address, racing problems, training required etc etc.

We've got about 15 comited sailors all of us are in mid teens and reasonable helms.

Between us we are trying to teach about 30 9-14 year olds from levels of not knowing one end of the boat to the other to almost helming but not confident enough (while having a bit of fun and blasting around in a force 5/6).

We have 6 wayfarers that need refurbishing, a sail store to re-decorate,3 topaz's and 8 laser 1/2's to look after along with a sport 14 and topper.

We also need to sort out a activity week and cadet race week!

Ok, still not entirely sure what the intention of the OP is but:

Cadet/Activity Week is the same week at MSC with a race on the Saturday run by the club Not the Cadet organisers.

When - depends if you need to call in extra boats or if you can use what you currently have. It will be in the main Summer holidays, preferably near the beginning, get the date organised now before the parents go and book summer holidays etc etc.

On the above notes, arrange a "bosun" weekend. Get the younger kids to wash the boats down with parents assisting, the older ones to re-decorate the sail store. Ask club members for volenteer paint/materials etc and get going.

Richard's right - try and get together often, get everyone involved, hold meetings amongst yourselves to discuss what you want to achieve and then work out ways in which your goals can be achieved.  Try and have regular get togethers, I can't say down the pub can I, but somewhere informal that you can all get to and talk about sailing, your plans, who is going to do what.  Maybe somewhere like a MacDonalds or something?

You need to make yourselves into a team so that you can really get to know each others strengths and weaknesses and get things done.

Good luck, though I have to say it sounds like you're taking on a lot - I hope you get lots of support from your club, too.
the same, but different...

to back up the posts above.
we at BLYM have a 'Youth Committee' as a sub committee to the main one. we are mainly 15-18yr olds. We are there to organize the big events we have as well as a handful of events for under 18's only, (funday, trips away)

we try and meet up often or weeks before a event is being held at the club we are sorting out etc.(often we have our meetings in the sailing club after a days sailing,or cafe nero)

We do have 'titles' within our YC but these are fairly relaxed tbh, our chairmen go to the main committee meetings to pass on information/give them our ideas and plans.

there is more but im too tired to think right now
