Cadet Committee

We've always has the problem that at our club the cadet section has always had it's own commodore,secatary, finnance officer ect, yet all we've ever done is used the titles in meetings.

Does anyone have any ideas how we can get more involved in the running of the cadet section?

We've got about 15 comited sailors all of us are in mid teens and reasonable helms.

Between us we are trying to teach about 30 9-14 year olds from levels of not knowing one end of the boat to the other to almost helming but not confident enough (while having a bit of fun and blasting around in a force 5/6).

We have 6 wayfarers that need refurbishing, a sail store to re-decorate,3 topaz's and 8 laser 1/2's to look after along with a sport 14 and topper.

We also need to sort out a activity week and cadet race week!

Richard's right - try and get together often, get everyone involved, hold meetings amongst yourselves to discuss what you want to achieve and then work out ways in which your goals can be achieved.  Try and have regular get togethers, I can't say down the pub can I, but somewhere informal that you can all get to and talk about sailing, your plans, who is going to do what.  Maybe somewhere like a MacDonalds or something?

You need to make yourselves into a team so that you can really get to know each others strengths and weaknesses and get things done.
