Wow, they look fast just being on display.

I reckon the new boats are getting on for as fast as an AC (old design canoe with added 20-23m2 kite). Mind you spinnakers make far less difference than most people think. Probably (and very roughly) around 5% faster round the track.

Ah, bad phrasing. I meant the new ICs are probably about 5% faster round the track.

I haven't sat down and done the sums, but an awful lot of new boats have been built recently (well, an awful lot by high end custom boat standards anyway). And in any case the mass market appeal of the IC approaches zero...

Are they? Funny they never struck me as being 'impossible' to get into and go, I always fancied one particularly after one demonstrated a stunning performance at one of the Round Isle of Sheppy events, but getting any sensible information about them always eluded me,.I think they have a very acute early warning radar system that keeps potential idiots from getting to know anything about them, it's sort of sailing equivalent of masonry I'm fairly sure they all wear aprons and roll their trouser legs up in secret before every regatta.

Which does beg the question how a well known poster from here ever hitched up her skirts onto one.
