Not to toot my own horn or anything....
But I'm one of those mentioned that hit 19.8 knots in an Albacore the day after Chris T hit 22 kt. All I'm going to say is that it is possible with the right combination of wind and waves and I've repeated it since. It's a regular occurrence that I can hit 17+ knots boat speed in an Albacore offwind in 20 knots of breeze with waves 2-3 feet. To the nay sayers, come for a ride with me and find out for yourselves. These are the comments from another (capable) Brit who was in the Albacore Worlds. "I've no idea. The two fastest times were the past and present world champions. The gps units were provided by a 3rd party who supplies the unit, not the boat owners, so they were about as independent as they get. It was very windy F6 I guess and there were some reasonable waves, although not huge as it was off the land. The tide was never very strong, less than 0.5 knots. We didn't get out to the race area where it was the windiest as we were turned back for the abandonment of the race before we got there. I helmed upwind on the way back and it was pretty tough going." |

If they're doing it regularly, then maybe 780's a bit generous. Any advance on 750? |

19.8 knots peak. It was for a short distance - about 20 metres. Max sustained was approximately 16.5 if memory serves. |
