With us now having a sailing school, the first race 09:25 alcomers B dinghies over 12ft, is still as it was, but 09:30 alcomers C dinghies 12ft or less, is often split into three starts for regatta week, Bronze, beginners, silver intermediate, gold ok they know what they are doing.
Maybe 60 of the rugrats out in the morning, I'll be doing rescue in the mornings, and race in the afternoons this year..

Another great link, Q!

how many of those 1908 trophies are still being presented, quite. few I guess.
Horning is a great club, good to hear its packed with young sailors, but also, looking at the recent results older members are still racing regularly.

Some of the trophies are being presented today, but not at Horning.
In 1938 all the "worthies" who ran the sailing clubs on the broads got together and decided to form "The Norfolk Broads Yacht Club" which is on Wroxham broad. They took all the trophies with them.

Within the year a lot of members of the constituent clubs decided that was not for them.
So Horning Town SC was reformed as Horning SC with an initial 244 members ( currently I believe something like 400) but we didn't get the trophies back. As it is over the years we have collected over 100 trophies partly due to a theft.

A lady winner of many trophies had them stolen, they were replaced, eventually the club was being contacted about the trophies being found in second hand shops. Some were returned, even from .... Canada. Eventually by tracing where the the trophies were found... The likely thief was found...her brother...

In the 1908 video certainly some of the boats are still around, and some descendants of those in the video are still sailing, sometimes in the same family boat.

I've sailed at Horning with club members from aged 8 ( the legal minimum for helming on the broads) to over 100. Our club president was out a couple of weeks ago, I don't know his age but he's certainly well into his 90s..

In answer to the iGRF question - he is well thankfully.

I checked in on him as I'd noticed he'd not posted in a while a week or so ago.

His reasons for not posting currently are his own for him to share if he wishes - but yep, the poor fella is a little jaded with this place and is probably benefitting from a bit of time out.
