I got myself that new T3 ...It is a very good harness; very supportive and comfortable and extremely solidly made. However, "release in seconds" my rear end. You'd have to be Charles Atlas and Houdini combined to get that velcro to release by pulling the little yellow tabs - especially whilst under water wrapped up in ropes. However, if it meets the letter of this silly law, that is fine with me. The sizing is mad btw, a "large" to match my "large" zhik wettie would fit Giant Haystacks - had to send it back and exchange for an S&M (S-M in fact, but S&M seems to suit something with straps and hooks on it). Still no "ISO Compliant" harnesses on the market; I think the manufacturers are expecting a change to the standard or another delay or abandonment of it.

I realise this is an old thread but aware the Jan 2023 deadline is getting closer but the market still doesn't seem ready.
Does anyone have any insight on whether there are any harnesses on sale that will comply with the new ruling? Still can't quite see how this will work in practice, is everyone from occasional club sailor to Olympian really expected to replace their harnesses by that date or risk DSQ? |

PS: In the chandlery today looking for a new harness - ISO compliance in the back of my mind. Not a QR hook in sight; iso compliant or otherwise. That fad has been and gone which will surely make the new rule untennable. Going to buy a Zhik T3 and use it with my flat plate hook ... and if anyone dares to say it's not safe they will get Pricey, but should last a few years (my less sturdy old Gill one has a rip in it but otherwise still working 10 years on), so compared to the price of a new sail, which will last a few seasons, not so bad.

Hey People. If we all refuse to comply, what will they do? I really doubt most people are going to go around checking the ISO compliance of all the competitors harnesses. I suppose if you are sadly desperate to win and will seek any way to do so, getting a few people DSQd for having a perfectly good safe harness that doesn't meet the requirements might do the trick!

Ta for that, I am also inclined towards no frills but just wondered if you might have a "user review" on the alternative adjustable version , I guess Shock is nearly local for you.
My well used Bethwaite with kevlar arse refuses to give up so only speculation at the moment.

Na, standard. I did think about the adjustable one. But just wanted the no frills option.
The medium fits over my winter steamer fine. Compared to the banks small I had the leg and bum fitting is about the same, however, the hook on the banks one did sit a long way from my body when pulled out trapezing. Not sure if this was just because it was old and had got stretchy. The down side of that is you have less trapeze height adjustment for a give reach to the handle. The Shock seems to have a slightly lower hook also. This might be stretching of the banks also, but it should allow the upper body a bit more twisting movement when on the wire.

Nice one, I don't suppose you got the adjustable version. I was thinking about one for summer to winter sailing, sometimes up here a drysuit is the more attractive option for a quick blast early season.

I got shock one. Crew had one already and has been happy with it. It's a better fit than the banks one and stiffer less stretchy material.
I've got three years use out of it... and in that time I can lobby my class to delete 43.1c) in our class rules.

2023 then?
A little over three years to spread the cost of a new Shock over; seems a worthwhile price to pay rather than getting something which doesn't comply come the time or even ever be needed like the last time this idea was mooted.
