Rio 2016 - Images from the strange day on the Medal Race course

After being delayed for three hours the Womens singlehander, Laser Radial, fleet was sent onto the the Medal Race course on Guanabara Bay, late this afternoon at around 3.45pm.

The fleet drifted around for 15 minutes or so on glassy water, then a breeze line appeared around the channel side of the Sugarloaf at the entrance to Guanabara Bay. That breeze looked useful and the media at least, not knowing what was coming, started getting set up.

However in a flash the wind swung and came off the Botafogo shore - a change of about 100 degrees, and quickly rose to 20-25kts.

The competitors evidently were expecting the breeze as all started sailing within a minute or two of the breeze change and appeared to be handling the conditions very well. ten minutes or so later racing was called off for the day.
