Helm- Special dining offer during Sydney boat show

by Jeni Bone on 26 Jul 2010
Sublimely situated, on the marina’s edge, Helm is a great place to seal the deal or just daydream. MIAA
The sublimely located upper deck of one of Cockle Bay's best venues has recently undergone an extensive transformation, re-emerging as the sleek and stylish new bar and restaurant: ‘Helm Bistro & Bar’ - offering MarineBusiness-World, Powerboat-World and Sail-World readers a 'show special' incentive to dine during the Sydney International Boat Show.

An ideal location for everything from large corporate lunches to intimate evening cocktails, Helm Bar is a sophisticated addition to the popular Darling Harbour dining precinct. Situated a mere stone's throw from the water's edge, Helm Bar offers Sydneysiders and visitors an opportunity to experience quality food, drinks and entertainment – in a dazzling new setting.

Helm Bar incorporates a cohesive nautical design to create harmony between the venues interior and its coveted seaside location. The distinctive yet stylishly executed ocean theme runs throughout the venue, with renowned architect Tony Legge utilizing natural wood and rich blue to create an elegant yet relaxed feel.

Gleaming glass facades maximize the abundance of natural light and ensure unimpeded views of the calm Cockle Bay waters. The resulting feel is innovative and fresh, yet flexible enough to accommodate Helm’s ever-changing atmosphere.

Making use of its prime waters edge location, Helm Bar has recently opened up an outdoor bar, 'Lower Deck'. Lower Deck makes maximum use of the Darling Harbour energy with ample outdoor seating and a timber outdoor bar - the perfect spot to stop for a drink and a bite. Large umbrellas and nautical style bollards work in harmony with the surrounding setting while maintaining the sense of style for which Helm Bar is renowned.

In line with the chic and modern interior, Helm Bar has introduced a contemporary Australian menu. Newly appointed Chef, Frederick Booms draws upon his classical training and extensive experience to design a menu focusing on fresh Australian produce and clean flavours - whilst not compromising on portion size and value for money.

Classically trained, Chef Frederic has designed a brand new menu for Helm Bistro packed with robust yet flavour focused dishes. Undoubtedly imbued with his signature European twist, the new Helm Bar menu represents superb brasserie style food at value-for money prices.

Helm Bar is open seven days a week, and is also available to hire for functions and catering.
