In March Hobie sailors honoured two new World Champion teams. The two skippers have different stories, both deserved champions.
The new Dragoon World Champion skipper Matthew Whitehead (RSA) now becomes the third generation and the fourth member of the Whitehead family to win a Hobie World Championship. He follows Grandfather Mick, father Colin and Aunt Robin in winning a Hobie World Championship.
Hobie Tiger World Champion, Mark Laruffa (AUS) has spent 27 years chasing the elusive World Championships. Mark has had seconds and thirds at previous Worlds but that elusive title has now finally been achieved.
It is of constant amazement that the Hobie Class can put on such spectacular Worlds. This is because the Hobie Class has such dedicated members. The Worlds in South Africa was organised and run by such a small dedicated group of Hobie Sailors. Everyone who attended the 6th Hobie Tiger and 3rd Hobie Dragoon Worlds are very appreciative of their great efforts in producing a wonderful and memorable world championship.
Well done to all the Dragoon and Tigers crews and skippers for attending these inspiring Worlds Championships.
