Trailable triumph for Tacktick

Winning the recent 2005 National Trailable title at Lake Macquarie in NSW was an outstanding achievement for Ross Caldwell’s Rolls Ross and was due in part to the state-of-the-art Micronet System from Tacktick.

The Ross 780 sailed to victory in the fiercely competitive seven race series, winning by 11 points and also taking line honours in six of the seven races. Rolls Ross is the first trailable yacht in Australia to feature the system and the crew couldn’t be more enthusiastic about it.

After winning the title, owner skipper Caldwell said, ‘we are rapt with it; the system is awesome, and I have been telling everyone how convenient it is. In particular, the wireless wind instrument is fantastic, because we are constantly dropping and raising the mast - so ‘wireless’ is good.

‘In addition to the seven-race regatta, we won a number of other passage races with the benefit of the system – especially the NMEA interface, allowing BTW and COG to be displayed on a night when fog and smoke produced zero visibility. We had to rely on the numbers to get us through - and it took us to victory.’

The system aboard the new Ross 780 comprises speed, depth, compass transducer, wind transmitter and display plus 2 X dual displays and an NMEA interface that connects to a handheld GPS. The system is totally integrated and, of course, coming from Tacktick is robust, reliable and wonderfully user-friendly.

Tacktick dominates the world of sailing, with top international sailors using their products. Now with the launch of Micronet, the company is providing wireless electronics to America’s Cup and Admirals Cup boats as well as cruising and racing fleets globally.

The Australian distributor of Tacktick instrumentation is Oceantalk, a company with an equally enviable reputation. For range, product knowledge and service Oceantalk is without equal. And not surprisingly they are thrilled that the Australian launch of the Micronet System has got off to such a winning start!
