Nine competitors came to the start line for the first race, held on Saturday 11 May, including three generations of the Goakes family. It was a beautiful sunny morning with a gentle north easterly wind blowing.

Pete Turner made the best start, diving to leeward of two other stationary OKs, but by the windward mark Simon Turner in his OK was leading from Rodney Tidd also in an OK with Pete third.

Bernard Clark pulled up to third after a poor start and Peter Turner regained the lead on the second beat and held off Simon Turner for a further two laps.

On Sunday morning ten competitors were on the start line on another beautiful sunny morning which eventually saw a force 3 north easterly blowing. After some confusion at the start Bernard Clark emerged with a good lead in his OK chased by Peter Turner in his OK and Andy Turner in another OK.

The Sharpie worked its way up through the fleet to challenge for the lead on the water. Rod Thorpe was caught out by a nasty sandbank and Simon Turner had toe strap failure which put him back. Alex Scoles in his Europe was going extremely fast in the marginal planning conditions.
