Slated for Friday 8th to Sunday 10th September, the Silver Jubilee edition of the Island's combined yacht clubs' Jersey Regatta, kindly sponsored by offshore law firm Carey Olsen, is open for entries.

Alex Ohlsson, Carey Olsen managing partner, commented: "We are thrilled to continue our annual sponsorship of the Jersey Regatta in what is a very special year for both parties. 2023 marks our 125th anniversary and the Regatta's 25th year. The Regatta has fast become one of the key dates for the Channel Islands' sailing community and this year's event is set to be one of the biggest yet. We look forward to welcoming everyone to a fantastic event with a record level of participation".

The Regatta is an open event for cruiser/racer, Quarter Ton, sportsboat, dayboat, dinghy, sport catamaran and windsurfer classes opening with an 'icebreaker' reception on Thursday 7th September. The cruiser programme gets under way on Friday morning whilst the 'small boat' fleet comes to the line in the afternoon. These races have their own trophies and prizes and are independent of the main programme; a great opportunity for visitors to warm up and get to know the competition and vagaries of Jersey's tides.

For the Regatta-proper, all races held on Saturday and Sunday count towards each day's prizes and trophies and the overall class championships.

Now celebrating its 10th anniversary, the GBR IRC Channel Islands Championship is the main highlight for the IRC cruisers. Running alongside the main programme, this is an open event for locals and visitors, alike. Keen competition, throughout all classes, is the order of the day but even more so when inter-Island rivalry comes into play. Nevertheless, the Regatta is an event for the whole sailing community, novices and experts, young and old, all can join in the fun and excitement of this flagship event.

Boats will be competing over a mixture of 'round the cans' and trapezoidal courses in the beautiful natural arena of St Aubin's Bay extending to coastal waters in the case of the cruiser classes. As ever, responsibility for the cruiser and 'small boat' classes is split between two independent race committees.

Once ashore, everyone will have plenty of opportunity to relax and unwind in the comfort of the clubs with plenty of opportunity for all to compare notes and generally socialise.

The social programme, then, includes après-racing dining each evening, all included in the entry fee except for the Saturday night Regatta party in the Royal Channel Islands YC, charged separately. Things draw to a close in St Helier YC on Sunday evening with a bumper prize-giving that will see the presentation of the myriad prizes and trophies.

Regatta Chairman, Bill Harris, said that "Twenty-five years is a real milestone for an event that has enjoyed such great support since its beginnings in 1999. This Silver Anniversary edition is well on track to produce what promises to be a truly special event for Jersey's sailors and visitors, alike. We are very grateful to Carey Olsen, now in their fourth year in the sponsor's seat, and to Jersey Marinas, both for their unstinted support throughout".

To register, go online at www.jerseyregatta.com. 'Early Birds' signing up no later than Friday 18th August will enjoy reduced fees, standard fees apply, thereafter, until Friday 1st September when entries close.
