North Sails Performance 2023 - LEADERBOARD

2022 ILCA 6 Women's & Men's World Championships at Texas Corinthian Yacht Club - Day 5

by Katie Olsen 16 Oct 2022 02:40 PDT 9-16 October 2022

Three races were completed today in the women's fleet and two races were completed in the men's fleet at the 2022 ILCA 6 Women's & Men's World Championships. With challenging conditions, every day at this event has brought a new leader, and today was no exception. A familiar name and Denmark's Tokyo Olympic gold medallist, Anne-Marie Rindom, is now winning the championship by 19 points.

Everyone sailed out onto Galveston Bay for the penultimate day of this event, and the breeze was ready to go for the afternoon at 8-12 knots. Maxime Jonker of The Netherlands won the first race today, and Rindom finished seventh. With the building wind, the gaps in boat speed became more apparent in the fleet, and Rindom rose to the occasion, winning both the second and third races of the day in the gold fleet.

"Conditions were absolutely perfect," shares Rindom. "...I think it was actually one of the easier days at this regatta where it's been more stable breeze, a little bit more space, and a little bit more hiking... [Tomorrow] I think I'm actually just going to try and stay out of trouble and sail my own races."

Much of the fleet had inconsistent finishes over the three races, which shook up the leaderboard. Belgium's Tokyo Olympian Emma Plasschaert holds second overall, just one point ahead of Hungarian two-time Olympian Mári Érdi, who is tied with Switzerland's Tokyo Olympian Maud Jayet heading into the final day.

In the men's fleet, two races were sailed, and American Peter Barnard continues to be atop the leaderboard as he has been since day 1 of the event. Americans Hamilton Barclay and William Baker also still hold second and third overall.

Now that both divisions have caught up to the intended 10 races, two races are scheduled for the final day tomorrow.
