The favourites for line honours in both the multihull and monohull divisions of the H&R Block Three Peaks Race have all arrived in Beauty Point in readiness for the 2pm start on Good Friday.
Four big 46' catamarans will vie to be first to Hobart on Easter Monday. First to arrive at Beauty Point was Queensland based Mobile Travel Agents Big Wave Rider, skippered by solo Australian circumnavigation record holder Bruce Arms. This is Bruce's third attempt to win the gruelling endurance event, and he has spared no effort. Recruited into the crew is teen solo circumnavigator and Dancing With The Stars contestant Jessica Watson, as well as mountain running record holder Andrew Kromar.
Sistership Euphoria Furniture, skippered by Steve Laird from Hobart, arrived into the Tamar River on Sunday evening in company with John Brierley's 46 footer Deguello. With defending champion 46 foot Peccadillo (Charles Meredith, Melbourne) already tied up, the scene is set for the clash of the 46 footers.
Previous monohull winner Haphazard (Nick Edmunds, Beauty Point) will do battle with former crewman Andrew Jones in his well performed Inglis 47 Advantedge.
A full day of festivities are planned for the race start at Inspection Head wharf, Beauty Point. Jessica Watson and Bruce Arms will be talking to the crowd at 12.45 pm before readying themselves for the Bass Strait dash to Flinders Island and the runners first peak.
