Spindrift racing heads to Italy for the GC32 Racing Tour

A few days after the last round of the World Match Racing Tour in Copenhagen, where Spindrift racing finished fourth, the team is now heading to Italy, where it will be back foiling at the first stage of the GC32 Racing Tour.

Having competed on the Tour last season and finished on the podium the multihull specialist Yann Guichard and his team will participate in four of the five stages on the 2016 circuit for these flying catamarans. Though the team is not targeting to win this Tour, they still have multiple objectives on board the GC32 Spindrift: to be as competitive as possible; to perfect their foiling technique; to keep the team performing at a high level and; to continue to grow as a team with a view on their forthcoming attempt on the Jules Verne Trophy record.

The starting orders for the 'GC32 Riva Cup', held on a closed body of water on Lake Garda, will be given tomorrow (Thursday) and nine international crews will be competing.

Yann Guichard, skipper of GC32 Spindrift:
'We started on this Circuit last year: the GC32 is a particularly demanding, challenging and fast flying catamaran. It's an easy boat to ‘fly’, but it’s very technical to go really fast. The races are hard-fought and this season the fleet is stronger still, so it promises to be a great show. ‘Flying’ has become essential in high-level sailing and we’re delighted to be taking part in some of the stages on the Circuit. While we have no podium goals on this season’s GC32 Racing Tour, being here will allow us to keep performing in this type of boat and continue sailing with the core crew ahead of restarting our training onboard Spindrift 2 for our record attempt. The regattas on Lake Garda promise some good competition - the breeze on this lake is essentially a constant diet of powerful thermals. We’ll only be racing three of the four days as, from Sunday, we have to be in Newport (USA) to compete in the next stage of the World Match Racing Tour, the one-design M32 circuit, which remains our main goal this year.'
