Doyle Sails New Zealand is pleased to announce that the recipient of its 2016/2017 Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron (RNZYS) Youth Training Programme (YTP) Doyle Scholarship is James Wilson of Murrays Bay Sailing Club. Congratulations James!

Open to all first-time applicants to the YTP, the quality of sailors applying for the scholarship was very high this year, but James was a stand out candidate. Having begun sailing at 10 years old he progressed from Optimist to P Class sailing, later winning the 2011 NZ Hobie Nationals and undertaking significant racing in the 29er class. Wilson was awarded the Youth Performance Award in Recognition of Outstanding Achievement and Services in Yachting at the New Zealand Yachting Awards in 2015. We are confident that James will make the most of this exciting opportunity and gain invaluable experience from the programme.

The scholarship is now in its second year, with the inaugural scholarship awarded to Taylor Burn in 2015, and is a key part of Doyle Sails New Zealand commitment to supporting New Zealand's youth sailors. Recipients have the costs of the programme covered by Doyle Sails New Zealand and receive support and mentorship from the expert Doyle team.
