Balboa Yacht Club’s 50th Gov Cup Finale will be held on Saturday

by Nancy Mellon on 23 Jul 2016
BYC start at RC boat 7-22 Mary Longpre
2016 Governor's Cup - The highly anticipated four final flights of the second round robin began at noon on Friday with about five knots of wind and continued temperatures in the high 80’s. It did increase to about nine knots but by four o’clock that afternoon, the wind died so the teams were sent back to prepare for the reception at the club that evening.

At the end of the flights, San Diego Yacht Club’s team of Nevin Snow, Scott Sinks, Rebecca McElavain and Chuck Eaton were at the top of the leader board with 20 wins. Harry Price, Murray Jones and Ben Robinson of the Cruising Yacht Club of Australia were next with 17 wins, Royal Freshwater Bay Yacht Club’s Sam Gilmour, Adam Negri, and Storm Brown with 15 wins, and Balboa Yacht Club’s Christophe Killian, Harrison Vandervort and Jack Martin with 14 wins.

Over the run of the regatta, Nevin Snow lost only to Price and Gilmour. Snow chose Killian to race against in the first part of the semi-finals. Price and Gilmour will compete to decide who will race against the winner of the other match. The winner will be the team with the first three wins out of five.

Competitions will conclude on Saturday with more matches involving the other eight teams, with the fifth place team racing against the sixth, the seventh vs the eighth, etc. The winner of the first two of three races declared the winner, unless the Principal Race Officer, Don Becker, decides to shorten the competition due to lack of wind.
