A boater's paradise at the Sydney International Boat Show

by Domenic Genua on 23 Jul 2016 Australians with a passion for the outdoors are set for a treat when the Sydney International Boat Show opens on Thursday. Scheduled to run for five days from 28 July to 1 August, it is an annual pilgrimage that has delivered joy to generations of boaties.

Opening for the 49th time, the show began in 1968 and has become an iconic event, recognised worldwide.

“Visitors to the show are set to see a tremendous array of boats, and all the equipment and gear to go with them”, said Howard Glenn, Chief Executive of the Boating Industry Association. “

“Recreational boating has many aspects to it, with sports like fishing, sailing, kayaking, waterskiing and wakeboarding complementing the ever popular family cruising, or just spending time on the water. Show visitors will see that the show caters to all tastes and skill levels”, he said.

Those new to the lifestyle will not feel out of place either, with tens of thousands each year using the show as a learning opportunity and launch pad for their time on the water.

The show operates across two locations. The large on-water vessels are hosted at the beautiful Darling Harbour only a few minutes’ walk from Sydney’s CBD. Undercover displays are housed at the unique Sydney Exhibition Centre @ Glebe Island.

The show journey starts at either location, and connecting the two is a free ferry service. The ferry shuttle gives show visitors a bonus voyage across the magnificent Sydney Harbour.
