Hamilton Island Challenger, Flamingo Bay to go, Port Hinchinbrook woes
After weeks of early mornings and torrid highs and lows with the America's Cup, this morning's announcement on Seven's Sunrise program was sheer pleasure to witness - Bob and Sandy Oatley ended a week of speculation and with whispering of unnamed sources to let the world know Hamilton Island Yacht Club is the Challenger of Record for the 35th America's Cup, bringing with it the right to establish the rules and parameters with Defender, Oracle Team USA.

So, 30 years on from the Australia II triumph in 1983, Australia will have an entry in the America's Cup, likely to be staged in 2017 so as not to conflict with the Rio Olympics in August 2016.

We an only imagine the Google searches for 'Hamilton Island Yacht Club' that no doubt took the breath away from anybody who saw the idyllic island and club which have now thrown down the gauntlet to Ellison and his team.
Let's hope some of the Aussies who competed onboard Oracle and Team NZ are tempted back by the Oatley entry.
Back to the real world, and there is plenty to celebrate at a trade level too. There are big plans from all kinds of exhibitors at the upcoming Mandurah Boat Show in WA 11-13 October, as well as the Gold Coast International Marine Expo 1-3 November.
These may be regional shows, but they exert all the clout of the majors and are hailed as sure-fire selling events for those involved.
Sad news about an iconic Queensland destination, which seems to have been mired in controversy and conflict since it was first mooted in the 80s. The Williams Corporation which owned Port Hinchinbrook development has plunged in to liquidation.
The region's commercial community is hoping the Queensland government will step in to keep the resort and marina in operation to make the package more attractive to a buyer, and to keep locals in employment.
On the upside, somebody will be taking home a piece of maritime heritage next Monday, a public holiday in Queensland, when the auction of RV Flamingo Bay will be held at Southport Yacht Club on the Gold Coast. It's the ideal lifestyle, working ship, office and explorer vessel.
