Yacht bought July, abandoned in August, Austrians' Pacific rescue

Buyer Beware. It was a 1988 Jeanneau Sun Legende 41, and they had bought it - with a professional survey - in July in Tahiti. However, trying to cross the Pacific, an Austrian couple had so much trouble they finally had to abandon it. The shrouds were giving way, the water pump had packed it in, the engine was overheating, the bilge pump was not active and they even had steering difficulties.... [more]

Hanson Rescue Medal to Dan R. Mastromarco for Chesapeake Bay rescue

US Sailing has presented a Hanson Rescue Medal to Dan R. Mastromarco of Annapolis, Md. for rescuing a swimmer from Chesapeake Bay on July 31, 2010. Mastromarco and his crew of three, with two young children sleeping in the cabin below, were sailing back to Annapolis aboard Inishowen, a Catalina 400, after an overnight sail was abbreviated due to forecasted thunderstorms and overcast conditions....
