Plenty to look at today, so you'd better brew another coffee. There are full reports on the China Cup International Regatta from both Andy Rice and Sail-World Asia, with slightly different emphases on events. With 91 boat entries, CCIR is definitely ‘on the chart', but the emphasis of the event is all on the Beneteau 40.7OD division, and there is no serious Grand Prix big boat division to lift it into the company of ‘Asia's major regattas'. Yes, it is the biggest regatta in China, but...
Evidently there is some confusion as to who runs the event. Yachts & Yachting ran a headline on 27 October, ‘6th China Cup at Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club', which isn't quite right. At the invitation of CCIR, the RHKYC has provided race management for the event since its inception 2007, but is believed to be stepping down next year on account of the Flying 15 Worlds taking place in Hong Kong. We await developments with interest.
The debate over windsurfing vs kiteboards at the next Olympics is still a-rumbling, and Luna Rossa now has an AC72 cat in the water in New Zealand. Indonesia is making another attempt to attract cruising boats to the biggest archipelago nation in the world, and in a moment of amazing irony the Vendee Globe race village at Les Sables d'Olonne had to be closed due to bad weather!
If you can't find something to interest you among that lot (and there's a good deal more) then you may as well take up ballroom dancing!
