33 year old Aussie James Spithill has just won the America's Cup World Match Racing series. His Oracle Team USA now heads home to its base at Pier 80 in San Francisco for the next four months with a full slate of activities on the schedule. The team's first AC72 will begin sailing next month, and the first regatta of the 2012-13 America's Cup World Series is scheduled Aug. 23-26. It'll be the first time that America's Cup racing will be featured on the Bay. We will bring you all the detail on the AC72's as they hit the water.
While much attention was rightly focused on Volvo Ocean Race winner Groupama, Australian skipper Chris Nicholson of emirates Team New Zealand (ETNZ) deserves a call out for a brilliant down-to-the wire win in Leg Nine—the team's first offshore leg win of the race.
This win propelled ETNZ into second place overall, provisionally nudging skipper Ken Read and his Puma Ocean Racing team down to third place by a margin of six points. Be sure to check out the full VOR multimedia report, as well as plenty of great image galleries, inside, and stay tuned for more about this weekend's final in-port race.
