Spectrum policy expert Michael J. Marcus questions whether the recent alarm and resultant lobbying by the marine industry is warranted with respect to the LightSquared threat to the GPS system in the United States. This is not yet relevant to Australia, but, as Marcus warns, we should be 'pressing GPS manufacturers about whether they are using (appropriate) interference rejection technology.'
Still in the USA, lobbying in another area is seeing results with the pause in introduction of E15 (reputed to cause significant problems for marine engines), while further research is assessed. This is another issue which could come to haunt us in the future, so it is worth paying attention.
