Doing it tough in Mooloolaba

As southerner sailors shiver – spare a thought for the 50+ Etchells crews who will face the starter on Friday for the Musto Australasian Winter Etchells title in Mooloolaba. It's hot here. One of the biggest problems they could face for practice racing this afternoon and tomorrow will be whether to wear 15+ or 30+ sunscreen.

Mooloolaba Wed 9 June 2010 - the Etchells Australasian Winters race course  Sail-World.com /AUS ©

We will bring you the news, it's supposed to be cold and windy on Friday so we could all be in wet weather gear, we shall see, maybe it will be cold by Sunshine Coast standards, rather than a Melbourne version.

Not so good news for Andrew Thomson sailing around Australia single handed solo. His mainsail is badly damaged, his spinnakers need repair, he has lost his generator, and his GPS is malfunctioning. Please cheer him up by going to www.sosoceanracing.com and voting on the plastic bag issue.

The Australian Laser team is going gang busters in Europe, read the latest.

Sail-World USA has appointed David Scmidt, the recent Senior Editor and current Editor at Large of the top US magazine SAIL as its Sail-World USA editor. That will certainly help us bring you the latest from that scene.

More news soon, off to the boat park, wearing 30+ sunscreen.
