The America's Cup is already here, well almost...I must admit I was one of the many around the world watching a webcam of the Valencia harbour for approximately three hours on the official America's Cup website while the yachts and the race committee were trying to determine whether they could run a fair race in the inconsistent Mediterranean breeze.
I did get a short glimpse of BOR90 and Alinghi5 side by side, but they never got to the racing part. I guess setting a consistent 20 nautical mile windward-leeward course is a bit more challenging than your typical Wednesday night club race; in the end, Harrold Bennett, the Principal Race Officer from NZ, made the right decision and called the race off. Sadly, the event is not being broadcast on television in North America so I'll be looking forward to at least a couple more 3:00 a.m. early mornings on the Internet to watch this two-out-of-three event unfold.
Despite all the fuss leading up to this 33rd American's Cup, there is a lot of media activity in Valencia and Richard Gladwell is in the thick of it keeping Sail-World readers informed; you can tune in to the Sail-World 2010 America's Cup news site for all current news.
Well-known Canadian around-the-world bowman Curtis Blewett was on deck with Alinghi5 today, a nice change from his sewerman role on previous America's Cup challenges. As was pointed out in one of the numerous on-line forums dedicated to the AC33, the two teams assembled for this event are simply amazing – particularly when you consider that someone like Frenchman Loïck Peyron is one of your 'spare'...
In the South China Sea, off the Vietnam coast, Cape Breton Island is near the front of the Clipper Round the World fleet as they make their way to Qingdao. Their focus in the current benign conditions is the next scoring gate just South of Taiwan, where they can then expect the weather to worsen on their Northerly course.
Again, many thanks for your on-going contributions; let us know how we can help you provide more targeted exposure to your sailing event...

America's Cup: Better weather prognosis for Wednesday + Video Richard Gladwell, While the weather prognosis for Wednesday is much better, than today, the dogs of Valencia, can expect a day on the chain.
