All hands, stand to! It's time to splice the mainbrace. At least, that's part of my plans for the coming weekend with a visit to the Jack Daniel's Experience at the inaugural Southport Boat Show.

As one who has been known to occasionally indulge in first rate sippin' whisky, the Jack Daniel's Mobile Distillery looms as a definite stop over during the show at Parklands, Southport.

A strong line-up of exhibitors from boats to tackle, engines to electronics and the 15,000-litre Supertank Fishing Show should attract plenty of interest in a boom boating area.

As usual, we unveil an interest-packed week here on Powerboat-World.

On Saturday and Sunday we'll be at Redcliffe for the final round of the 2009 Offshore Superboat Championships where Maritimo's Bill Barry-Cotter will make a return to the race circuit for the first time in more than 12 months.

Good news for fans of the exciting Formula tunnel boat racing with the formation of a new body to administer and conduct the sport.

Plenty happening on the Powerboat P1 front, too.

And Peter Garrett, rock and roll singer or environment minister, take your pick, reckons 60 percent of people want more green zones!

Now with summer approaching, Australians flock to beaches across the land and the NSW Government is undertaking a program called ‘Shark Smart', apparently to inform swimmers how to stay safe from shark attack.

I wonder if someone will inform the ‘Noah's Arks.?

Perhaps a program called ‘People Smart' and directed at the sharks themselves might be the answer?

We've also heard of a very mysterious tragedy in the US where a father and son lost their lives during a bass tournament.

They drowned in water only a metre or two deep and authorities to date are unable to work out what happened.

Well, I guess we can't always report good news only.

Stick with us, plenty more to come.

Next week we'll have a full report on the Redcliffe Offshore Grand Prix and the Southport Boat Show right here where you'll find all the news that matters.
