Avast there! Come aboard and stow your gear as we take you through another week of news from the world of powerboats.
Actually, before we start talking powerboats, there's some good news for Sydney-based bargain hunters with a not-to-be-missed sale of Line 7 gear following that company's unfortunate foray into receivership. Hopefully, there'll be some light at the end of the tunnel for what has become an iconic marine name and I hope my old mate Ross Munro comes out of it OK at the other end.
Last weekend saw the penultimate round of the Offshore Superboat Championships staged off Townsville and although there's one round remaining (Redcliffe, Sept 12-13) ‘Maritimo' has already collared enough points to claim the '09 Class 1 crown.Plenty of shots of the offshore action from photographer Andrew Gricks, including a spectacular image of the field being sent on its way.
In the Middle East, there's been high-speed galore on the Formula 1 front and at home Yamaha engines have posted a fine result in the popular Barra Comp.
We take a close up look at first aid kits specially designed for the marine environment and take my word for it, you're asking for trouble if you don't have at least a basic kit on board.
And we can assure those who may have lost a small outboard engine overboard that all is not lost; a dunked outboard engine can be brought back to life and you do not need to have graduated as an outboard technician to save it.
In case you have been living a hermit-like life you'll know the 2009 Sydney International Boat Show is just around the proverbial corner (July 30-August 3). It may be my 1000th (2000th? 3000th?) boat show, but along with the rest of the crew I'm looking forward to another visit to Darling Harbour and the show's 21st outing there.
What we're all hoping for, of course, is for the show to send a message loud and clear. That message will be – Global financial crisis? Never heard of it!
See you all at Darling Harbour, but keep calling in to Powerboat-World for the latest ‘drum' on all things that matter to powerboaters.
