Ahoy there and other various nautical terms of welcome
Describing this week's Powerboat-world newslwtter as ‘interest-packed' would not do it justice, even if we do say so ourselves.
For starters, busy people these days often flock to airports as they fly interstate and inter-city on business (and pleasure), but hey, forget the aeroplane, read on and I'll convince you, hopefully, to go by boat.
Check out the deeds in our part 1 story of commercial fisho and abalone diver Gunther Pfrengle, the man who holds five inter-city powerboat speed records and proves you don't need a multi-million dollar maxi sailboat to get to Hobart.
Stick around next week for part II and I'll reveal someone else who once ‘had a crack' at an inter-city record.
We also hear that Honda is about to unveil a new EFI outboard engine and rest assured we shall keep you right up to date on this important release.
On the offshore front, the Norwegian Grand Prix is looming (July 17-19) and there's a new all-Norwegian crew chasing the pot of gold at the end of rhe offshore rainbow.
Our own Tom Barry-Cotter will also be there, with his favourite throttleman, another Norwegian in Pal Virik Nilsen.
And Fairline, those very stylish motor yachts from the UK will be seen in all their glory at the forthcoming Sydney International Boat Show (July30-August 3).
Finally (almost), some very good things come in very small packages – don't believe me? Check out a stunning and superb array of hand-crafted models and weep with envy.
Finally (again and for the last time!), why not join the industry for breakfast at Darling Harbour around 7.15am on Friday, July 31?
Gee, think of the excitement. You could even get to meet.........me!
Just kidding, come along, at boat show time there's no better place to be than Darling Harbour.
Inter-city powerboat records ‘up for grabs' Bob Wonders, Go interstate by powerboat - it's an absolute blast if you're silly enough. Inter-city record attempts have been undertaken for quite a few years; I was once told by an old offshore racer that they were one of those things 'everybody says they intend to try some day.'...
