SCIBS review, Riv layoffs and Taiwan range & Iain Murray in depth
What a weekend! Despite the inclement conditions, false start and lower than anticipated visitor numbers, the organizers of Sanctuary Cove should be congratulated on their commitment, thorough communications programs (thanks Kate!) and excellent infrastructure. When the sun did show itself, Friday, numbers were solid and so too were sales.
Feedback from most exhibitors was that the buyers were still out, rain, hail or shine, plus many first-timer showers were so impressed with the quality of the crowd, they said they would be back next year.
It has been a massive week for news – new products, show firsts, records set, upcoming events and shows, plus more workers laid off at Riviera, as well as the landmark announcement that Riviera plans to manufacturer a new range of behemoth vessels in Taiwan under the brand, Riviera Motor Yachts, and my personal favourite issue: a massive dredging project underway on the Gold Coast.
Also, for the 'sheilas' as we are affectionately (although somewhat anachronistically) known around the traps, the launch of MINNOWS (small fish in the pond), an industry networking group for women involved in any facet of the marine business. We kicked off with a small do at the spectacular Palazzo Versace last Friday. At Sydney, we are aiming for a massive event, industry speaker, loads of networking and equally top-notch champagne! Get in touch if you're keen.
Phew! Exhausted just listing some of the stories we have for you.
Please visit frequently over the next few days for all the innovations and initiatives from this year's SCIBS. There are some incredible people out there whose engenuity will undoubtedly make your lives and livelihoods a lot easier.
Nice to see you again at the show, some of you for the first time. I spent much of the time in the company of our new sales rep, Phil Arane, who will no doubt contact many of you in the next few weeks to introduce you to the benefits of advertising with our online publications.
Keep in touch with your news.
