The place to be next weekend Feb 1-3 is Docklands for the 2008 Melbourne International Boat & Lifestyle Show!

The Presenting Partners for this expanding show are Club Marine and the City of Melbourne. Details below.

The Boating Industry Association of NSW is preparing for the Rosehill Gardens Boat Show over the weekend of February 22-24.

For those who may not recall, this show was once known as The Great Silverwater Boat Show; it was quite successful there, but has blossomed at the modern Rosehill facility and is second only to the Sydney International among NSW exhibitions. Powerboat-World will be there, why don't you join us?

Some good news for Queensland – the Australian Offshore Challenge Bass Strait Rally was due to take place again this year. However, promoters, the Geographica Corporation, said interest from the ‘Sunshine State' was so demanding that the Bass Strait Rally will now take place in '09, with Queensland chosen as this year's venue for a gruelling offshore challenge.

The challenge will start from the Gold Coast on September 7, due to conclude in the Whitsundays one week later.

Courses to test navigational skills will be set and there will also be timed courses to allow boats to operate at wide open throttle and there will be six or seven stop-overs.

Sounds good to me; if anyone out there planning on entering happens to have a spare spot on board, well, I'm easily found.

The name is Chris Heaton, the man in the hot seat or the man to take Mustang Marine into placid waters? Formerly managing director of Oliver Marine, Heaton was confirmed last week as the new general manager of the Gold Coast boat builder. This week he speaks exclusively with us.

More trouble on the horizon for the boating industry with Redcliffe-based Sundown Marine, together with an associated company, Capricorn Marine, now in the hands of administrators. Sadly, at least 15 jobs lost to date.

However at the other end of the news spectrum the R Marine network continues its expansion, now with a Melbourne dealership.

Aussie cricket star Matthew Hayden, otherwise known as ‘Matt the Bat' has donated his valuable time to promote boating safety on behalf of the National Marine Safety Council.

For many Australian boaters, the logistics on moving their boat from the Southern States to the Great Barrier Reef are just too great. There are hundreds of yachts, luxury power boats and now motor sailers available for Bare Boat Charter in the Whitsundays. One of the leaders in this field is Whitsunday Rent A Yacht. Look at their latest offering below.
