Australia’s first Byte Regatta

The Adelaide International Regatta and SA Youth Champs were held over a hot long weekend last month, hosted by the Adelaide Sailing Club. Thanks to supporters, Tim at XSP and Emma at The Sailing Shop the Byte CII’s enjoyed a great family competition with Moltas Engström from Sweden winning both the AIR regatta and the SA Youth Champs. ...[more]

The Byte CII dinghy and Techno 293 windsurfer have now released the dates of their 2013 World Championships which will be the first world qualification events for the Nanjing 2014 Youth Olympic Games. Barbados, Bermuda, British Virgin Islands, Canada, Cayman, Dominican Republic, Guatemala, Jamaica, St. Lucia, and the US Virgin Islands are already on board for the CII North American Championship and the NA and Caribbean Youth Olympic Games (YOG) Qualifier coming up March 10 - 15. Byte CII European Championship and YOG Qualifier - 76 competitors from 30 countries completed 10 races, sailed over four days, in a huge variety of wind and weather conditions. Peter Batho of Hungary won the Men's Division of the Byte CII European Championship and Sara Natasza Piasecka of Poland won the Women's Championship. ...[more]

All Byte regattas, and not just the World's, are sailed as an open event. However, as this was an important qualifier, it was decided to split the fleet to avoid any possible chance of a sailor being prejudiced. Darren Choy of Singapore won what turned out to be the final race of the Championship when the final two scheduled races were abruptly cancelled as the wind suddenly built to 30 knots in a matter of minutes during the starting sequence for the third race and was soon followed by crashing seas. ...[more]

Competition at the Byte CII World Championship today started off looking much the same as the previous two days that were scrubbed for lack of wind and there was concern that, maybe, the minimum four races to constitute a Championship would not get sailed. In the Byte CII World Championships, Finland's Niki Blassar finished with two firsts and a second today to pull herself 12 points clear of second place Ling Ying Koh of Singapore. Seventy sailors from 29 Countries have been streaming into the Yacht Club de Cannes for the Byte CII World Championships and Open Youth Olympic Games Qualifier.
