The Round the Island Race and a not too great forecast saw very limited numbers of Redwings and One-Designs racing over the weekend. Indeed with only one Redwing and one One-Design interested in racing on Saturday, the Committee Boat did not leave the pontoon!

Although still only one Redwing on Sunday morning there were three One-Designs keen to race. Starting at Under Tyne (E) they were set a windward/leeward course, initially G - T (2) # but with E instead of T for the second round.

No 9, helmed by Mark Grzegorczyk had the best start to windward of No 1 helmed by Russ Fowler and No 2 helmed by Martin Bonham. On reaching the moorings, Mark tacked well ahead of the other two who headed inshore. At G, No 9 was a minute and a half ahead of No 1 with No 2 a similar distance behind. Playing safe, Mark decided against flying a spinnaker but it did not make any difference to his lead, indeed rounding G for the second time had was double the distance in front; No 2 had a good leg and moved up into second, however Martin was unable to hold onto it for the final two legs to E and #. At the finish, Mark was over 4 minutes ahead of Russ with Martin a couple of minutes later.

Mid afternoon starts next weekend; hopefully more takers!
