Celebrating 10 years of the Deutsche Segel-Bundesliga, the Württembergischer Yacht Club hosted the grand finale for both the 1st and 2nd DSBL sailing clubs, with eighteen clubs in each division and a total of thirty-six teams all hanging out together sailing on Lake Constance. What a party and a great time to socialize with friends across Germany!

On the last day of the 2022 season on Lake Constance, the first and second division teams had to contend with very little wind and unstable weather conditions. Little to no wind, shifting winds, and the onset of rain caused nervousness and tension among the participating clubs. While only a few changes were to be expected at the top of the table even before the first starting signal, the clubs at the bottom of the table were concerned with staying up in the league.

For the sixth time, the Nord-Deutscher Regatta-Club Verein (NRV) won the coveted championship trophy of the German Sailing League. Meanwhile, the Sailing and Motorboat Club Überlingen (SMCÜ) was runner-up for the first time in the club's history, ahead of the team from the Berlin Club Seglerhaus am Wannsee (VSaW).

"We are overjoyed that we now have the sixth star on our chest and have become champions again," said Tobias Schadewaldt, helmsman of the NRV team. "But, the season isn't over for us. After winning the SAILING Champions League, we want to get the treble and also win the league cup. We're hot for that!"

According to the regulations of the German Sailing League, the last four clubs in the table are relegated from the 1st league down to the 2nd league. This year, with a gap of around ten points to the fourteenth place in the table, these are the Bavarian Yacht Club (BYC), the Blankeneser Segel-Club (BSC), the Joersfelder Segel-Club (JSC) and the Itzehoe Sailing Association (SVI).

The Konstanzer Yacht-Club (KYC), which organized the regatta in Friedrichshafen together with the Württemberg Yacht-Club (WYC), also had a special reason to celebrate today. "The promotion feels good, we trusted our junior team this year and were not disappointed either," says Felix Schrimper from the KYC. With only 17 points after five match days, KYC confidently led the table in the 2nd German Sailing League. The second climber, the Akademische SegelVerein Warnemünde, followed two points behind. The club Regatta Segler Neuruppin (RSN) and the Chiemsee Yacht Club (CYC) have also risen to the upper house of the German Sailing League.

"We are very grateful for this exciting season, in which the level of the top clubs in the 1st German Sailing League was particularly impressive," says league organizer Oliver Schwall. "The excellently executed six events would not have been possible without the great commitment of the organizing clubs and the many volunteers."

The German Sailing League, which is celebrating its tenth anniversary this year, has become an integral part of the regatta calendar of many clubs from its very first season and has established itself as a top-class sailing event where former Olympians, World, and European champions and their teams compete for their home clubs.

"The attraction of league sailing continues to grow in its tenth year," says Oliver Schwall. "This year, the competition between North versus South, NRV versus SMCÜ, had a special dynamic. But, also the local rivals of the individual federal states and city-states always ensure a special tension on the water."

After the last flight on the water, the award ceremony took place today with the presentation of the championship trophy on the grounds of the Württemberg Yacht Club. In the evening, all participating teams and clubs celebrated at Zeppelin University. The DSL Cup will take place on November 5th and 6th on the Outer Alster in Hamburg, the organizing club is the NRV.
