While we love having our pets with us, dogs can have a devastating impact on native fauna, particularly nesting seabirds, when on islands.
Domestic animals must not be brought in to national parks when visiting the Great Barrier Reef World Heritage Area. On-the-spot fines apply if you are found to have pets with you in a national park.
