2022 ILCA 6 Masters World Championship presented by Paradise Village Group at Vallarta - Day 4

by ILCA 16 Jun 2022 15:03 AEST 31 May - 7 June 2022

Two races were competed today, for another stunning day of sailing at the 2022 ILCA 6 Masters World Championships. Sailors arrived refreshed after yesterday's lay day, but most ended the day tired and happy after two races in 15-18 knot winds under sunny skies.

The race committee abandoned the first race, started in a 5-8 knot breeze, as a major right shift rolled across the course as the thermal breeze began to build. By the time the race was restarted, the wind had built to 12 knots and only increased from there. Today's stronger wind also brought a two-meter swell, which provided ample surfing opportunities on the downwind legs.

The stronger wind also brought some shake-ups in the scores. Australian Jeff Loosemore and Great Britain's Ian Gregory both broke their perfect strings of first-place finishes in the final race today. Canadian Allan Clark found the breeze to his liking, posting a 2, 1 to move into first overall in the Great Grand Masters division. But the leaders of the Legends division and Apprentice division, American Bill Symes and Jon Emmett of Great Britain, extended their leads further today by adding yet another set of first-place finishes to their scores.

Racing continues tomorrow. The forecast remains steady as Hurricane Blas, currently in southern Mexico looks to move west, away from Nuevo Vallarta, over the next few days.
