Early entry ends Thursday 15th August for the Irish Laser Nationals at Ballyholme

by Mark Mackey 13 Aug 2019 02:48 EST 22-25 August 2019

Early entry discount ends this Thursday 15th August for what is looking like one of the hottest competitions in the Laser Radial class in the youth section in the Irish Laser Nationals.

Last week Ballyholme's Dan McGaughey won the youth title and second overall in the Laser Radial UK Nationals at Largs, Scotland. This followed Howth's Eve McMahon who won the Under 17 Laser Radial Youth Worlds title the week previous in Kingston, Canada. And of course Eve's brother Jamie won the Under 21 Laser Radial European title back in May in Porto. There is some talent building up for the Laser Radial European Youth Championships which Ballyholme will host next summer in July 2020.

Before that - Ballyholme Yacht Club will host the 2019 Irish Laser National Championships from Thursday 22nd to Sunday 25th August 2019 with support from Ards and North Down Borough Council, CH Marine, Quay Marinas, the Salty Dog hotel and the Guillemot Deli & Kitchen Cafe.

This is the first major Laser event at Ballyholme since 2014 when Ballyholme's James Espey was keeping current Olympic hopefuls Finn Lynch and Liam Glynn at bay, and Annalise Murphy was on her way to Olympic Silver at Rio 2016.

Please enter the event at members.laser-ireland.com. Membership of the ILA for 2019 is €30 with early entry for the 4 day event just €110. Keep an eye on the ILA website and BYC's ballyholme.com as well as Ballyholme Yacht Club's Facebook page for any latest news.

BYC recommend that you organise accommodation as early as possible to ensure that you are close to the clubhouse where they will have various social activities planned. There are a large number of guest houses/ B&B's and small hotels within walking distance of the club. There are also self-catering apartments and houses to rent in the local vicinity. You can book all of this through the Bangor link on the Ards and North Down tourism website. www.visitardsandnorthdown.com. We also have a new Premier Inn in Bangor that has just opened for bookings in August.

Ballyholme has a great reputation for looking after its visitors and making everyone most welcome. Have a look at our YouTube channel to watch the ISA Youth Nationals in 2017 and Topper World Championships in 2016.

For families and friends who are visiting alongside competitors have a look at the website for Bangor's now famous Open House Festival www.openhousefestival.com/festival. There is lots on throughout August and especially on the week of the Championships. For younger families we have lots of activities on at Pickie Fun Park, Eddie Irvine Sports and other spots throughout the borough. See www.visitardsandnorthdown.com/things-to-do for more information.
