Competitors enjoyed superb sailing conditions in Weymouth Bay for the two day Spinlock IRC Southern Championships on Saturday 25th and Sunday 26th May.
On the first day the forecasted windshift happened well before the leisurely start time of 1130 which made the race team's job a lot easier than feared. Two classes started together and sailed similar courses for 3 races - 2 windward leewards followed by an olympic course with a finish by the harbour entrance. Conditions were excellent with blue skies and light to medium breezes.
Sunday was breezier resulting in a couple of boats starting with reefs. Again 3 races were set using a variety of fixed and laid marks - a windward leeward, an olympic, and a final windward leeward with a finish by the harbour entrance - from final finish hoot to mooring in less than 5 minutes !
With negligible tides, sheltered waters and a short distance to the racing area reminds us of why Weymouth was chosen for the London Olympics.
Thank you to Spinlock and Musto for their generous prizes which were welcomed by the sailors.
Class 4 visitors from Whitby sailed their X-302 "Antix" with consistency to claim the top spot, second and third went to visitors from the Royal Dart YC; "J'Ouvert" in Class 3 and "Bandit" in Class 4.
