Get out and sail: Your weekly crewing update from MySail

ANZAC Day racing © MySail

Yesterday was ANZAC Day, and I consider myself lucky to have spent the afternoon out on the water, enjoying the freedom those who served have fought so hard for.

Normally, when I race, it’s pretty competitive. But yesterday we weren’t racing for sheep stations, but just enjoying a social afternoon, two-sail race around Sydney harbour. It certainly was a breath of fresh air.

If you’d like to get out on the water and for some competitive, or not, racing, here are some of the latest crewing opportunities from around the country.

Available Crewing Positions:

Clean Sweep – Port Stephens, NSW
Elliott 780, 7.8m, PSYC

Clean Sweep’s owner Steve has been a member of the Port Stephens YC for two years, and purchased the Elliott 780 late last year. They are doing really well with four 1sts, one 2nd and a 4th so far.

Clean Sweep currently participates in Wednesday racing and is looking for at least two crew who have some experience and someone with spinnaker experience to start sailing on Saturdays with the Port Stephens Yacht Club.

They have just competed in Sail Port Stephens and intend to enter again next year, as well as the Heaven Can Wait regatta at Lake Macquarie in March.

The boat is called Clean Sweep because of the sponsorship by their cleaning business in Port Stephens which is Baylife Services. You can also visit Clean Sweep on facebook.

Stealth – Newport, NSW
Swarbrick Custom 32, 32 foot, RPAYC

Stealth is an all-aluminium sloop designed by Kim Swarbrick and built by Steve Ward in Fremantle, WA in 1998.

She was purchased by her current owner, Robert in December 2016, who sailed her to Pittwater in January/February 2017. Since that time she has had a total below, on-deck and above deck refit, new 3Di racing sails, new boat handling systems, a Volvo Penta engine and more; almost everything is not as before.

The team began racing this year and need crew with commitment and drive for inshore and offshore courses. They are currently looking to build their crew list, and plan to be at a Cat 2 level by May 2018.

FromRussiaWithLove – North Haven, SA
Bavaria 30, 9.45 metres, CYCSA

FromRussiaWithLove is a small but enthusiastic bunch of sailors.

They compete all year round, mostly in Inshore races, with a mixture of fixed mark and windward / leeward courses.
