In offshore sailing news, work is well underway on the rigs for the new Volvo Ocean 65s, the new class of One Designs that will be used to contest the next two editions of the fully crewed, around-the-world Volvo Ocean Race. 'Making sure everything is one design from mast to mast was a big job in the beginning,' said Kevin Batten, Southern Spars’ Project Manager. 'We have a process here: we pick fiber for each mast and check the resin content to make sure each mast is the same weight for the mast section. Once the masts come out of lamination, we weigh them all to make sure they meet the designed weight.’ In other news, the inaugural TP52 Southern Cross Cup 2013 was a roaring success, Sail-World`s reports from the event were read with interest world-wide. In the end, the truly international Team Beau Geste proved too strong for the locals, finishing four points ahead of Marcus Blackmore’s class act, Hooligan. Congratulations to all the owners, crews, organisers and race officials for a great event and to John Curnow, Lisa Ratcliff for their excellent report and Teri Dodds for her great photos.
 | Digicel Challenger Win CSA Racing Class - Jody Sallons Day/Antigua Sailing Week | The 2013 Jolly Harbour Valentine’s Regatta drew to a close in Antigua and the young crew of Cork 1720 Digicel Challenger celebrated the final day with a victory bash at the beach on Sunday evening, 11 February, after their overall win in the Racing Division of the popular sailing event. 'This is a great victory for us,' said helmsman Bob Green. 'The guys have worked so hard, training after school to prepare for this event.' | Elethea, CSA Cruising Class Winners - Jody Sallons Day/Antigua Sailing Week | In the cruising division Rick Gormley and his crew on First 38 Elethea were also celebrating their win. 'I've done this event for 13 years and in fact the Jolly Harbour Valentine's Regatta is the reason I came to live in Antigua,' he said. 'I would put 95 percent of our success down to the crew work and five percent to the helm! The racing was very close and there are some good sailors out there so we are very pleased with our victory.' Action for the J Class is also on the rise with the announcement of the J/97 Europcup set to take place 21st – 24th August. The overall results will determine both the winner of The Lombard J/97 UK National Championship, and now the European Championship also. And finally, be sure to check out the latest reports from sailing action around the world. Until next time, we wish you fair winds and good sailing,
